goonawarra primary school
As a part of upgrades to Goonawarra Primary School (located near Sunbury), the school requested that there be a focus upon creating a welcoming entry to the school, including a forecourt space to encourage parents to gather and talk when dropping off and picking up students. A circular forecourt was designed that created a way to address multiple access points and axes. The school also requested a reference to the local fauna within the space, and boldly selected a snake. The school is close to the prime snake habitat of Jacksons Creek. The school also already has local fauna links, with Goonawarra being the original name for black swan on this country, and Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung elders were consulted as a part of the design process. FFLA worked closely with Williams Boag Architecture on the project that included a new school reception associated with the forecourt, as well as new classrooms and associated outdoor learning spaces.
