launceston road safety centre
The Launceston Road Safety Centre is a popular transport-themed play space that first opened in 1980. A landslip in 2019 necessitated works that removed most traces of the original (except the facility's distinctive circular shape, due to being constructed inside a former reservoir built in 1894). Upon completion of stabilisation works, FFLA designed and documented a replacement facility, seeking to capture the colour, fun and local flavour of the original. The design also had to address challenges including restrictions on planting into the 'reservoir' base and the requirement for a robust and low maintenance facility.
